Des Moines Kitchen Update - 1.0

Over the years of moving around the country Jen and I have fallen in love with home DIY projects. She would be the first to let you know that when we were first married she felt like she was working with Tim "The Toolman" Taylor..needless to say I was clueless.

We've come a fair distance since then. We've learned to do some basic electrical, lots of painting techniques, plumbing, and even built a fence (thanks Amanda!) to keep the attack dog in...

One of the first projects we took on in our Des Moines house was the kitchen. It was furnished in traditional MidWestern style...no thanks!

A number of changes were needed stat, window treatments, paint, and the previous owners had extended a light out into the middle of the kitchen which really made the space feel a lot smaller.

We started with removing the window treatments and put up a brushed aluminum curtain rod from Crate and Barrel, along with curtains we found at Ikea (they were in a grab bin...awesome deal!).

Next we painted a light blue Benjamin Moore (reminiscent of the color in our guest room at the Cedar Rapids  house, but more on that later). This really brightened up the room.

We also replaced the old refrigerator with a brand-new Samsung from Lowe's (on 15% off, plus Jen had a 10% off coupon, and on top of this we had them price match another online offer we found that was 10% less to begin with...score!).

The next small project I have is to move that light fixture back into it's original position and slide the eat-in table in front of the window.

What kitchen projects do you have working right now? Send photos, or ideas to krogerloved@gmail.com
